Setting up SCIM on the Enterprise plan
Updated over a week ago

This documentation is intended for Claude Enterprise plan customers implementing SCIM. Please note that customers may use a different identity provider (IdP) than Okta.

What is SCIM?

SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management) is an open standard protocol designed to simplify user identity management between your Identity Provider (IdP) and Claude.ai. Once you’ve set up SCIM between your IdP and Claude.ai, new users added to your IdP and assigned to the Claude.ai application will have an account for Claude.ai automatically created for them.

In Claude.ai’s implementation, SCIM handles user additions and deletions. Claude.ai does not reflect permissions (such as User, Admin, or Owner roles) based on groups in the IdP – these are managed separately within our application.

How to enable SCIM in Claude.ai

First ensure that you are the Owner or Primary Owner of your organization. If you aren’t sure, you can see your role on the Team Settings page (claude.ai/settings/team) page. Then go to the Admin Settings page (claude.ai/settings/admin) and scroll to the “Single Sign-On” section. Click the “Add SCIM” button:

That will take you to the “Configure Directory Sync” page hosted by WorkOS, Anthropic’s SSO management provider.

Locate your directory provider, which is likely the same as your SSO provider, and click on the row. That will take you to a set of instructions for how to set up SCIM between Claude.ai and your provider. For example, Okta’s instructions look like this:

Once you’ve completed those instructions, your IdP directory will begin to sync with Claude.ai’s servers. This may take some time, depending on how many accounts you have granted access to the Claude.ai application in your IdP.

Resetting SCIM

WARNING: If you reset SCIM, all of the Claude.ai accounts except for the Primary Owner will be deleted.

To reset SCIM go to the Admin Settings page (claude.ai/settings/admin) and scroll to the “Single Sign-On” section. Click the “Manage SCIM” button:

You’ll be redirected to a directory sync management page. In the top right click the “...” menu for “Directory Options”.

Then click “Reset Directory”:

Confirm your decision by typing Reset:

Finally, you’ll see a page to set up your directory again.

You can close this window if you do not intend to re-configure SCIM.
